Welcome to the ETEC 522 Serious Games Wiki!

What is a "serious game?" Well, here's Wikipedia's definition:

A serious game is a software application developed with game technology and game design principles for a primary purpose other than pure entertainment.

An example would be America's Army, a game built, some might say, to train future soldiers. Another would be the Carmen SanDiego series of educational CD-ROMs. And yet another would be PeaceMaker: Global Conflicts, a screenshot of which is shown below. In other cases, standard games are used in non-standard ways - such as Civilization III being used to teach the key concepts of history. Here's a question for you: how would you define serious games?

I added some html (on this page)so your links would open in a new window. I hate losing an original document when linking to other sites.
To do this:
click on source
use the anchor tag
<a href="http://www.url.com" target="_blank"> some text that is the link </a>

Interesting! I hate the page deciding for me whether it's going to open a new window or not ... I use tabs, an virtually always open up new windows in tabs.

This saves state on the original page, and also does not clutter up my desktop.

I am a big tab user too. I use Firefox. Firefox will automatically open a new page in a new tab and keep the original.
